Thinking Bigger
The past few weeks have honestly been a bit of a whirlwind for Nate, Megan and I. I do not think any of us anticipated the incredible show of support and enthusiasm our combined community has shown for this event. It has truly been eye, and heart, opening.
Since we announced the event, we have heard story after story from you all. Your personal experiences with homelessness. Your desire to make positive change, to help, to make a difference. Stories of compassion. Even stories from loved ones and family members who have actually been homeless at one point.
Over and over again, we heard you say you have always wanted to get involved, but did not know how.
That, I think, is something we all share. We see the same person on the same corner every single day… we know them. They know us. But what can we DO?
When we started this journey, we thought about BarberQue as a one-off event. We thought that maybe, if it went well, we would try to repeat it again next year.
Your support has inspired Megan, Nate and I to think bigger. We WILL be doing this again next year. We are applying for 501(c)3 nonprofit status. We are building the infrastructure necessary to make BarberQue spread — building a toolbox so that friends in other cities can throw events of their own. We are reaching out, making connections, and building partnerships with existing homelessness advocacy groups.
As the scope of this project grows, so does our budget – and as such, we ask that you continue to give. Our goal is to set ourselves up this year with operating costs for the next event, be that next spring, summer… or maybe even this winter.
As before, all time served on this project is volunteer, and all dollars will go directly to supporting those in need.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support. This project would not be what it is without you.
